OBG-October Pictures

On the computer again instead of my phone, so here is another month's worth of pictures. Someday I'll get caught up!!! :) As you can probably tell by looking at him, these are not in chronological order. I have to figure out how to reorder photos or why Blogger puts them in the strange order that it does.

Found Objects

The Bean has a multitude of toys. Some are educational, some have lights and/or make noise, and between all of them they have lots of different textures. Like most babies though, his favorite things to mess with tend to be found objects. Meaning just random stuff from around the house. The plus to his love of found objects is that it makes it easy to have new things for him to mess with. He likes his toys too, but the joy of discovering new things all the time keeps him happy.

One of his favorite things to do is to stand hanging on the coffee table and push everything on the ground. We keep the table loaded with envelopes and papers that we don't need. Sometimes I throw in a small box or other little objects too. He will play this game till his legs get to tired to stand. We are quite grateful to my parents for our coffee table, as its nice and solid and heavy so he can't move it anywhere. Our old one would have never stood up to this type of activity.

Another favorite game of his is to get in the pantry and pull out and mess with bags, mostly plastic. He loves the way they crinkles when he grabs them. He has even more fun when he thinks he is sneaking into the pantry when we leave the door mostly closed. He pulls out a bunch of bags, spreads them all over the kitchen and messes with them. I can hear some of you gasping that we let him play with plastic bags (which I realize are a suffocation risk). Don't worry! He doesn't play with them unattended and he doesn't try to put them on his head or eat them.

Generally he enjoys new activities for a few weeks, so I am sure before long, he will find something else to play with! The plus is, that so far, everything that gets old becomes new again, so he will likely cycle back around eventually. Works well with his toys too. You don't give him something for a little while and then he is thrilled to see it.

Water Baby

This is an expansion on the cute picture I posted the other day of the Bean waiting for his bath. I've added the picture again, in case you need a dose of cuteness!

He loves the water. He loves to watch it, touch it, play in it, and especially be in it. Fountains or other running water when we are out places quickly grab his attention. Any running water at the house gets him excited. After he eats, I tend to just wash his hands at the sink instead of trying to wipe them. He objects greatly to having his hands wiped, but will happily stick them in the water. From watching us, he is starting to figure out how the faucet works, so we really have to be careful that he doesn't grab the handle and change the water to full hot.

I am so glad that he likes the water. It makes our lives a lot easier. I have him fully acclimated to the shower, and he showers with me over taking a bath most days. He waits, not so patiently outside the shower door, for me to be ready for him. As soon as the door is open he quickly pops his head and hands inside so I can grab him. He also looks so cute when he is waiting (or getting in the shower), but of course I don't have pictures since unlike the baby, the iPhone doesn't like the shower. Learning to shower with him took me a little time. A wet, soapy baby is much, much more slippery than even just a wet one (and certainly way more than a dry one). We take a bath sometimes for a treat, but he doesn't like to bathe alone. When he is in alone the water is much more shallow than it is when I get in with him and he thinks the shallow water is unacceptable. Its way easier to just shower with him if I don't feel like taking a bath.

He is all done with swimming lessons, but we go to open swim at a really nice pool near us. We could do another session of lessons, but quite honestly, he has more fun at the other pool and I really don't think he will get much out of another set of lessons right now. We will probably do another round in a year or so when he is older.

We went swimming with a friend and her little boy on Friday. It was her little one's first time in the pool. They both had a great time. The Bean prefers the lazy river part of the pool (where we swim in circles together) and her little boy liked the shallow pool where he could move around on his own better. Its so fun to watch them grow together and shower their different personalities!

New Friends

On Wednesday we got to go over to a friend's house and meet her new baby, Thumper, who is now two months old. Her three year old, Rerun, was also home. I was reminded about how big the Bean was as a new baby when I held Thumper. At two months old, he was bigger than the Bean was at birth, but not by much. Happily the Bean didn't seem to be jealous of me holding the baby. What he was jealous of however, was Rerun. He kept randomly screaming and we couldn't figure out why. Finally we realized it was because Rerun would go from playing on the floor by the Bean to running around and the Bean wanted to be able to run around too. Poor Rerun seemed confused by the Bean's size. I think he thought the Bean was older and should be able to play with him better. His mom kept telling him that the Bean wasn't that much older than Thumper, but I don't think he believed her. The Bean was so tired after playing that he fell asleep instantly on the way home.

It was so nice to visit with Deanna and the kids had a great time playing together, so I think we will be going back again soon. If we end up there when Deanna's older two kiddos are home, the Bean will probably get even more jealous though! It will be fun to see his reaction.

Thinking

Busy

We've been busy having adventures and I just haven't had time to update. It's late and I'm tired, so sadly it'll have to wait. Here is a cute picture to help with the waiting!

Yummy Pears

The bean had some pears for lunch. They were a huge hit! Messy, but loved. 

Costco

The bean loves shopping anywhere. Lots of stuff and people to look at makes him happy. Today we all headed to Costco. Being Sunday, it was of course sample day. Most of the samples were things he doesn't eat yet, but then we found Nutella on graham crackers. This was messy but a huge hit. He was thrilled, until I cleaned him up. 

Work

I've been working a little here and there and everyone always wants to see pictures and hear about the bean. I have been wanting to stop by work with him when the people I worked with all the time are there, but timing just hasn't worked out. 

Yesterday he took a long late nap and when my attempts to out him to bed failed, I decided it was a great night to go in. Jeff was fine with us leaving him for a while. I think he's missed some alone time since I don't work regularly anymore. 

As expected, the bean was curious about everything and everyone. Other than pictures, a lot of them haven't seen him for a while so they were amazed at how big he was. We visited for a while and then headed home. As an added bonus, he fell asleep almost instantly in the car. Not a bad way to put him to sleep!

First  Bath

I'm a cat

The bean loves to do his army crawl around the house and explore. He thinks the cat's tree is fascinating. He got mad when I wouldn't let me eat one of her toys and then wedged himself under the shelf. He hasn't figured out where he does and doesn't fit yet. 

Disappointed bean

I took advantage of the beans afternoon nap yesterday and lowered his crib. I also removed part of his mobile and made it so it only projects images on the ceiling. Wow that crib mattress is a long ways down. Made me miss the drop side cribs for sure!!

The bean was not a happy camper when he woke up this morning and discovered that his new trick of standing in his crib can no longer be performed. With the mattress lowered, he can't reach the rail to pull himself up. He was previously really good at turning on his mobile to watch but I'm not sure if its to high now or if he just hasn't figured it out again yet. Last time I lowered the mattress it took him a few days. He may be unhappy but at least he's safe!

Growing up

He is learning to do new things all the time. This is what I found post nap today. Clearly it's time to turn the mobile into a ceiling projection device and lower the crib again. He was very proud when i walked in, as he always is upon learning new things.

Sleep

Sleeping isn't something that the bean does willingly or long. He is so darling when he sleeps though. Last night he needed a good snuggle in the big bed with mommy and daddy before he was ready for his crib. Luckily his mommy never minds some extra snuggle time. 

More Teeth

The bean has been very busy and is getting four teeth in on the top. This makes him a little cranky and edgy, but its understandable. That's a lot going on in his mouth at once. He doesn't really want me to touch in there, so getting a picture is tough. Here is my best success so far

Last swim class

Monday was our last swimming lesson. They have been fun and I'm glad we did them, but I think we will just stick to open swim for a while now. We will probably do a class again when he is a little older. I learned lots of fun things to do in the water with him though. 

Lots of the parks around us have outdoor wading pools that open in the summer, so we will have to check those out too.  If the warm weather we are having continues, it will be summer very soon!!

I've been wanting to take a picture of the bean all ready to swimming, but for obvious reasons they frown upon photos in the changing room. There is a big mirror over the changing table too, so that makes it more challenging. Yesterday for a brief moment we were alone in the locker room after he was dressed so I grabbed a pic. I couldn't get him to pose in such a short period so his hands are everywhere, but you can see how stylish he looks :)

Breakfast

We have established a new tradition of making a big breakfast every Saturday morning. The bean likes this. He greatly enjoyed his breakfast of eggs, pancakes, toast, and oranges this morning. Believe it or not, he actually ate more than he is wearing.
